The premises
Seating capacity of the premises
How many customers you can seat in a space based on its total area.
Try it in the calculatorWhat it is and why it matters
It's the reverse of the dining room area: given a space for rent, how many covers fit.
It lets you check right away whether a space suits your project, before negotiating the rent.
The formula
- Dining room area = premises area × share for the dining room (≈ 55%)
- Covers = dining room area ÷ area per customer with circulation
What each value means
- Premises area
- The total square meters of the space.
- Dining room share
- Between 45% and 65% of the place; 60% is a common reference.
- Area per customer with circulation
- The area per person with walkways already included (for example, 1.30 m²).
Step by step
- Multiply the premises area by the dining room share.
- Divide that area by the area per customer with circulation.
- Round down: that's how many covers fit.
Worked examples
A 120 m² place
The dining room takes 60%: 120 m² × 60% = 72 m².
At 1.50 m² per person: 72 ÷ 1.50 = 48 covers.
If the project needs 60 covers, this place falls short.
Study notes
Rounding
Covers are rounded down: a fraction of a seat isn't enough for one more person without making everyone else less comfortable.
